Excerpt #2: Fred became still and realized he was staring at a small stream. It was a form with meaning. As always, he recognized the metaphor. Just as the stream had to flow around rocks, sticks and roots, slowing at the bends and bubbling over the small ledges, his journey had to also overcome obstacles, and these brought tension.
“So, as long as you choose to take form you are adopting all of the laws of matter, all of the pitfalls, and yes, joys of being in form. You are experiencing everything your heart desires including the obstacles. That too is a part of the whole. Yet, if you look and feel inside, you will also find internal obstacles creating tension, and you already know what they are.”
“No I don’t!,” he exclaimed, thereby acknowledging the tension. He felt an involuntary jerk of his shoulder muscles.
“See, your body knows too.”
Fred pulled his knees up and put his head in his hands, elbows resting on his knees. The tension was there and he did know why. He could feel the different parts of himself, one divine and the other human. There was a part of him wanting to be of service, and another wanting more in this life, and those parts were in conflict.
“So, which is it? As you know, there is no penalty for making either choice.”
Fred was determined to clean up his mistakes, live a spiritual life, but could he?
